As a Cleric of the Holy Order of Northshire during the first war, Uther the Lightbringer witnessed the near destruction of his order when the Orcs entered through the Dark Portal for the first time. This destruction made him realize that faith alone was unable to fight against the new found enemies. When the Holy Order started to rebuild itself in Lordaeron, Uther learned from their mistakes from the past mistakes of the Order and took up arms in an attempt to preserve their teachings. He and his followers became the first paladins and the Knights of the Silver Hand. In the Alonsus Chapel of Stratholme, Uther became the first of the new order and hence became their leader. From this moment on the Holy Order co-existed with the younger order. This day was one of the first, if not the most, glorious day for the Alliance.
The Knights of the Silver Hand saw no action until the Second War. It was on their way to Darrowmere Lake when they were ambushed by Alterac Pirates. After fighting off their assailants, Uther uncovered a conspiracy that revealed Alterac’s betrayal to the Alliance. Uther led the assault on the small kingdom and destroyed it. After the kingdom was out of the way, Uther continued on to search for the remainder of the orcs in the north. Later he would head south and push the Horde out of the Wetlands. Uther the Lightbringer assisted Commander Turalyon in closing the Dark Portal.
Even though it was not needed, Uther still served as a stalwart knight and protector of the people. He soon became the greatest of the Paladins and began tutoring King Terenas’ son, Prince Arthas, in the way of the Light. They became true friends and acted as family.
